The U.S. averages one petrochemical incident every 10 hours
Spills, fires, flares, and leaks happen at petrochemical sites across the country every day.1 Since 2023, we’ve recorded more than 3,200. That’s one every 10 hours. Many more never get counted at all, because they fall below the level the state requires anyone to report. The ones we can count release chemicals like vinyl chloride, ammonia, benzene, and butadiene into the air you breathe, the ground you stand on, and the water you drink. We want to hold petrochemical companies accountable for their actions.
